Production planning for sugarbeet seed

The production of certified sugarbeet seed starts with planning the varieties likely to be needed two to three years before sowing.

The possible acreage of each variety in the different sugarbeet growing regions is estimated, thus determining the production needs. After having sown the basic seed in August, the quantity to be produced may still be adapted to the estimated demand in winter, when all the data of the variety’s performance in the different markets are known.

During the entire production process of KWS varieties, the planning is continuously and meticulously checked, to produce only seed of the highest quality and at the same time avoid excessive production. The production of the components of basic seed starts at least four years before the sowing of commercial seed.
